If reproduction is the engine that drives evolution, why engage in non-conceptive sex? In his attempt to tackle this question, Paul Vasey employs concurrent cross-species and cross-cultural perspectives.

Paul Vasey, a neuroscientist, explains how society and culture can affect biology—specifically homosexuals in cultures where there is no societal archetype of “gay” with which to identify. He relates his experiences studying the fa’afafine in Samoa, who demonstrate this different perspective on sexuality.
