Corina Tarnita

Corina Tarnita applies her knowledge of mathematics to study evolution and evolutionary dynamics. Part of her work focuses on understanding how population structure affects the outcome of evolutionary processes.

Strip away the trimmings of a traditional science presentation, add cocktails, and you have WSF Spotlight. As a young girl, Corina Tarnita found herself with a talent for mathematics, something she had thought was the norm. As she grew up, however, she quickly realized the difficulties of being a woman in a male-dominiated field. But when legendary biologist E.O. Wilson needed an expert mathematician, she found herself taking a crash course in ant biology and gaining new insight on the true nature of science, which values expertise above all else.
