Jean Berko Gleason

Jean Berko Gleason is one of the world’s leading experts on children’s language and one of the founding mothers of the field of psycholinguistics. She created the famous Wug Test, which reveals how children learn the rules of language, such as how to make singular words plural.

Strip away the trimmings of a traditional science presentation, add cocktails, and you have WSF Spotlight. This is a wug. Now there is another one. There are two of them. There are two ____. What? With this simple test and and an adorable imaginary animal, Jean Berko Gleason opened up a new understanding of what would become psycholinguistics. Follow along at home and see how you fare when she selects two volunteers to take some of her linguistic tests.
