Meet Pioneer in Science, Dr. Nora Volkow

In honor of International Women’s Day this Saturday #IWD2014, we’re recognizing female pioneers in science. Today, meet Dr. Nora Volkow, whose research on drugs and the brain helped us understand addiction as a disease. Nora Volkow is the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She’s not your average general in the war on drugs. The troops commands are kids; the ammunition: science. It was Volkow’s curiosity as a young adult that ultimately led her to this battlefield.

Dr. Volkow conducted the first ever multi-lingual Pioneers in Science program on Friday, May 31, speaking to students in both English and Spanish. Watch the full program from WSF 2013: in English or Spanish.
