Imagine a hotel with an infinite number of rooms and an infinite number of guests. But what if another guest comes to the hotel? Where do they fit in? Mathematician Steven Strogatz uses buses instead, and takes us step by step through the process, connecting it to the mathematical world. Georg Cantor countered David Hilbert’s Infinite Hotel with the idea that some infinities are bigger than others. Strogatz explains Cantor’s notion of infinity using the famous example of Hilbert’s “Infinite Hotel.”
