The tall red banners lining Brisbane’s Victoria Bridge fluttered in the breeze all week long, rolling out something like a red carpet to the tens of thousands of people who made their way to the first annual World Science Festival Brisbane in 2016.

That was the most visible way to see that science had taken over this emerging city — if you don’t count the giant inflatable red cube and sprawling tents full of demonstrations that sprang up along South Bank seemingly overnight.

The city’s cultural district hummed for five days with the excitement of scientific exploration as curious Australians and visitors joined together to celebrate Einstein’s intellect, watch award-winning scientists share their insights, and explore that giant red cube — the Festival Lab — during the all-ages street fair, ‘Street Science!’

“World Science Festival Brisbane was an enormous success,” said Brian Greene, co-founder of the World Science Festival. “We couldn’t be more proud of what has emerged from our new partnership with the Queensland Museum. Brisbane was buzzing with science.”

The World Science Festival Brisbane packed in brilliant original performances, enlightening conversations, fascinating demonstrations and more swimming baby sea turtles than you will ever get tired of watching on loop. Rave reviews echoed throughout the city and across the Internet, highlighting a city that eagerly embraces the wonder of science in all of its forms.

The World Science Festival Brisbane returns in March 2017.
