Christopher Tyler
Visual Psychophysicist
Christopher Tyler spent his research career exploring the fascinating processes of how the eyes and brain work together to produce meaningful vision. His most recent work analyzes the visual perception of faces and the role of symmetry in face recognition. He discovered that facial expressions of emotion project changes of expression even into features that do not physically change, and has emphasized the importance of 3D structure in facial recognition. His art analyses include studies of perspective throughout the history of art, and the analysis of facial features in cryptic self-portraits by many famous artists.
