Jad Abumrad

Radio Host

Jad Abumrad is the host and creator of WNYC/NPR’s award-winning radio series Radio Lab, which reaches nearly 4 million people per month and describes itself as believing “your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience.”

The son of two scientists, Abumrad initially ran in the opposite direction, studying creative writing and music composition. He’s since wandered back into the fold, so to speak, but still composes much of the music for Radio Lab. He previously produced documentaries for a variety of local and national public radio programs, including On the Media, Studio 360 with Kurt AndersenMorning Edition, All Things Considered, and WNYC’s 24 Hours at the Edge of Ground Zero. The Ring & I, an insightful look at the enduring power of Wagner’s Ring Cycle which he produced and hosted, aired nationally and internationally and earned ten awards, including the prestigious 2005 National Headliner Grand Award in Radio.
