Jeffrey Levinton

Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolution

Jeffrey Levinton is Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolution at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is a marine ecologist and has published over 130 contributions in the fields of marine benthic ecology, paleontology, and evolution. His current research is devoted to the ecology and evolution of sexual selection in marine invertebrates, the evolution of resistance to toxic substances, and the feeding, physiological performance, and restoration of oysters. He is a Fellow of the AAAS and has been a Guggenheim Fellow and Fulbright Senior Scholar. His most recent book is Marine Biology: Function, Biodiversity, Ecology, 3rd edition, published in 2009 by Oxford University Press.
