Simone Buitendijk

Epidemiologist

Simone Buitendijk is vice-rector magnificus at Leiden University, and as such responsible for education, student affairs and diversity. She is a professor in Women’s and Family Health at the Leiden University Hospital LUMC. She studied medicine in Utrecht, earned a Master’s degree in Public Health at Yale School of Medicine in the US, and got her PhD degree in Leiden. She is a crown member of the National Health Council, a member of the European genSET (Gender in Science Engineering and Technology) consortium and one of the authors of the July 2012 LERU (League of European Research Universities) paper ‘Women, Research and Universities: Excellence without Gender Bias.’
