Inside the Mind of WATSON the Supercomputer
Building a computer capable of winning a game show such as Jeopardy! takes much more than bestowing upon it the breadth of human knowledge. It has to be a fluent English speaker, too. David Ferrucci, lead researcher of the WATSON/Jeopardy! project at IBM, takes us inside the mind of the famous supercomputer, discussing some of the challenges of creating a machine that can understand spatial directions and wordplay—things that a child can do with ease.
