Animal Behaviorist Apprentice: The Naked Mole-Rat
CSI Sports & Recreation Center, Building 1R | September 23 at 1:00 PM | Recommended for ages 8+
It’s hard to find a New Yorker who hasn’t encountered a rat. But a naked mole-rat? Doubtful. Native to East Africa, they live mostly underground and, because of their highly social behavior, scientists are studying why they crave so much family time. You won’t come face-to-face with any rats at this program, but you’ll join neuroscientist Dan McCloskey to examine and track their behavior (via Live Webcam) and discuss what parts of the brain drive social activity and what this means for humans. SIGN-UP HERE

College of Staten Island Astrophysical Observatory Tours
CSI Observatory, Building 6N | September 23 at 11AM, 12PM, 2PM, and 3PM (20 minute tours)
Arrive 5-10 minutes before your tour at the City of Science Welcome Desk in Building 1R for escort to the observatory.
Explore the universe at Staten Island’s only planetarium. Its telescope has been scanning the skies for 45 years, and now’s your chance to get an up-close look at what we can best see during the day — the sun. With the expert guidance of astrophysicist Irving Robbins, also learn how an observatory works. SIGN-UP HERE
