Volunteer explorers of all ages are invited to learn from bug, bird, plant and river experts and to help find, identify and count all the plant and animal species that call the this lovely little park along the Harlem River home.
This extraordinary event is free and open to the public but space is limited so advance on-line registration is required.
Be sure to arrive on time Saturday! While Swindler Cove Park is open to the public, we cannot guarantee your reservation for any WSF-BioBlitz talks or walks if you come late.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring children of all ages to the BioBlitz. In addition to the Blitz, there also will be age-appropriate activities for younger kids as part of New York Restoration Project’s Family Day, which is also free and open to the public (no sign-up is required).
About Swindler Cove Park:
In a city starved for waterfront access, safe and clean public parks, and quality recreational resources, Swindler Cove Park is a model of public-private partnership. This five-acre park, located on the Harlem River was opened to the public in August 2003. The Park features the Riley-Levin Children's Garden—an outdoor "classroom" with flower and vegetable beds and a teaching circle; and the New York City Arts Commission award-winning Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse—a unique floating center for public rowing instruction on the Harlem River, designed by noted architect Robert A.M. Stern. The Park and its world-class amenities provide naturally diverse settings for NYRP's environmental education and public programs for local children and adults.
