Andrew Revkin Moderates Top Energy Scientists
May 19, 2008Andrew Revkin, New York Times Reporter moderates powerful line-up of scientists, inventors of cutting-edge energy technologies, and policy advisors in town-hall meeting, Powering the Planet
New York Times environmental reporter Andrew Revkin will moderate a sweeping townhall meeting of pioneers in renewable energy technologies, Powering the Planet, featuring research at the vanguard of solar, wind, geothermal and algae/biofuel energy. Leading scientists, conservationists and high-level policy advisors will debate the challenges and solutions to the urgent global problem of powering the planet with clean, renewable energy sources.
Featuring:
- Nobel Laureate Sherwood Rowland, famous for identifying the destructive role of CFCs in the creating the “ozone hole” in the planet's atmosphere
- Shirley Ann Jackson, physicist, policy advisor, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
- David Keith, a pioneer in capturing and storing climate-change-causing CO2
- Betsy Taylor, who has spent more than 20 years promoting energy conservation and community building
- Glen Kurtz, algae-to-biopower pioneer
- Saul Griffith, high-altitude-windpower innovator
- Dan Nocera, who is seeking to mimic photosynthesis as a means of harnessing solar energy
Powering the Planet will take place on Saturday, May 31, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at NYU's Kimmel Center for University Life, 60 Washington Square South (between Thompson and LaGuardia).
The event is supported by Con Edison and NYSERDA.
