Michael Lai

Student, ISEF Winner

Michael Lai is currently pursuing a medical degree in Hofstra University’s combined BS/MD program in which he will directly matriculate into the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine. He attended Jericho High School in Jericho New York. During his time at Jericho he was a member of the school’s rigorous science research program and participated in the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which took place in Los Angeles California. His project was titled “Identification of TBX3 as a Novel Regulator of Lung Angiogenesis” in which he determined that the protein TBX3 plays a role in angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing blood vessels, a process which has implications in cancer, wound healing, and organ regeneration. For his work he won the 4th Place Grand Award in the category of Cellular and Molecular Biology and a special award from the Weizmann Institute of Science.
