Congratulations to Shep Doeleman and the Event Horizon Telescope team, winners of the 2020 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics! At the 2019 World Science Festival, Shep presented the methods used by the EHT team to produce the first-ever photograph of a black hole. The image, released on April 10th, 2019, confirms (at least for the moment) Einstein’s theories at the boundary of a supermassive black hole, opening a new window into the study of these mysterious objects.
