The Freelance Graphic Designer will support the World Science Festival’s creative and marketing teams by producing high-quality visual materials across print and digital platforms. This seasonal, project-based role is ideal for a designer who can quickly translate concepts into compelling designs that reflect the Festival’s distinctive blend of science, culture, and storytelling. The Freelance Graphic Designer will collaborate with staff across departments including Development, Marketing, Editorial, and Media to produce materials that support the Festival’s events, programs, and institutional initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design and produce a wide range of visual assets across print and digital platforms in alignment with the World Science Festival brand and visual identity.
- Create materials including event graphics, invitations, social media assets, digital marketing materials, program guides, presentations, brochures, signage, and other promotional materials.
- Translate concepts, editorial content, and brand guidelines into visually compelling and production-ready designs.
- Work closely with the Development, Marketing, Editorial, and Media teams to understand project goals, timelines, and design needs.
- Turn around projects efficiently and meet tight deadlines, particularly during high-volume periods leading up to Festival events and program launches.
- Prepare production-ready files for print vendors and digital distribution.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate clearly regarding timelines, revisions, and deliverables.
Qualifications And Special Requirements:
- Minimum 3–5 years professional graphic design experience (agency, freelance, or in-house).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality work across both print and digital platforms.
- Demonstrated experience producing materials for cultural, nonprofit, educational, or media organizations preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Strong typography, layout, and visual storytelling skills.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently without compromising quality.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
- Experience preparing files for print production and digital distribution.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Engagement Details:
This is a freelance, contract-based position with seasonal and project-based work depending on Festival programming cycles.
Hourly compensation ranges from $50 to $90 per hour, depending on experience and seniority.
New York–based designers are preferred, though candidates from other locations will be considered.
