Douglas McCuistion

NASA Executive

Douglas McCuistion has 40 years’ experience in high technology and aerospace sectors. His NASA career culminated in the landing of the Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity rover mission after leading the “Golden Decade” of Mars exploration as NASA’s director of the Mars Program. As director he led all aspects of NASA’s robotic exploration of Mars, including seven missions from Spirit/Opportunity to the adoption of Mars 2020, the first step in Mars sample return. After retiring from NASA he was chief operating officer of a start-up company developing future nuclear power technologies. He is currently a private aerospace and nuclear consultant. He began his career in the US Navy as a F-14 Tomcat aviator and in Navy space, retiring at the rank of Commander. He has been recognized with a Presidential Rank Meritorious Senior Executive, NASA Distinguished Service medal, two NASA Exceptional Achievement medals, two Navy Commendation medals, and other awards.
