Jamie Metzl is a Senior Fellow for Technology and National Security of the Atlantic Council, novelist, blogger, syndicated columnist, media commentator, and expert in international affairs and biotechnology policy. He previously served as Deputy Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senior Coordinator for International Public Information at the U.S. State Department, Director for Multilateral Affairs on the National Security Council, and with the United Nations in Cambodia. Metzl appears regularly on national and international media and his syndicated columns and other writing on international affairs, genetics, and revolutionary technologies are featured in publications around the world. He is the author of the novel The Depths of the Sea and the genetics thrillers Genesis Code and Eternal Sonata. Metzl holds a Ph.D. from Oxford, a JD from Harvard Law School, and a BA from Brown University, and has completed thirteen Ironman triathlons, thirty marathons, and fourteen ultramarathons.
