Jorge Sastre

Composer, Engineer, Mathematician
Jorge Sastre, PhD, is the Director of Performing Arts and Technology (PerformingARTech) at the Universitat Politècnica de València. Sastre is also the director of the Soundcool Project, a collaborative audiovisual project that uses smartphones and augmented reality, which premiered in Valencia, Spain and Puebla, Mexico. Soundcool has received prizes, including the NEM Art Award for European creative industries and the SIMO Award for Education Technologies. The class “Introduction to Soundcool” serves over 4,000 students, surpassing the Guinness Record for the Largest Music Lesson in 2018. He was a visiting scholar at at Carnegie Mellon University’s Computer Music Project, led by Professor Roger Dannenberg, where he taught at the Integrative Design Arts and Technology Program (IDeATe). Sastre composed the opera The Mother of Fishes with Professor Roger Dannenberg using Soundcool. Sastre is the recipient of the Bankia Award for Musical Talent as Best Researcher.
