Lisa Kaltenegger is the director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell and professor in Astronomy. She is fascinated by the new worlds orbiting other Suns. Her research focuses on modeling these new worlds especially on how to spot signs of life. The light fingerprint of a planet allows us to explore other worlds orbiting alien Suns over lightyears away. Among her recent science awards are the IAU Invited-Discourse-Lecture 2015, the Doppler Prize for Innovation in Science of Austria in 2014 and the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Prize for Physics of Germany in 2012. Kaltenegger was named innovator to watch by TIME Magazine, a Role Model for Women in Science and Research by the European Commission, and one of America’s Young Innovators by Smithsonian Magazine.
