Omer Mei-Dan

Orthopedic Surgeon, BASE Jumper

Dr. Omer Mei-Dan is an Orthopedic Sports and Trauma Surgeon. Originally from Israel, he has also trained and practiced medicine in Spain, New Zealand, and Australia, prior to establishing the Hip Preservation Service with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Mei-Dan has a robust high-level research and publication record complementing a busy surgical practice. He has authored over 100 scientific articles and wrote numerous book chapters. Juxtaposed to his medical career, he is a world-renowned extreme sports athlete. For over 25 years he has dedicated personal development toward wingsuit flying, rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing, and B.A.S.E. jumping. As a former Red Bull athlete, he executed many global, media-covered stunts. This personal interest (and injuries) has fostered a unique research track focused on orthopedic, mental, and hormonal dimensions characterized in extreme sports athletes. As such, he edited the first extreme sports medicine textbook and organizes and hosts the biannual International Extreme Sports Medicine Congress.
