Ralph Nuzzo

CHEMIST

Ralph Nuzzo is the G.L. Clark Professor Emeritus of Analytical Chemistry, and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a recipient of the 2022 Kavli Prize in nanoscience for his contribution towards the development of molecular-scale coatings for surfaces, which enable novel and unique levels of control and engineering of surface properties, with applications from medical diagnostics to semiconductor devices. These coatings are referred to as Self-Assembled Monolayers, or SAMS, and Dr. Nuzzo and his fellow Kavli laureate, David Allara demonstrated the first SAMS to firmly bind to bare metal surfaces
