Rufin VanRullen

Cognitive & AI Scientist, CNRS

Rufin VanRullen is a cognitive neuroscientist and AI scientist based in Toulouse (France). He is a CNRS Research Director and holds a Research Chair at the Artificial and Natural Intelligence Toulouse Institute (ANITI). Previously, he worked for brief periods at Caltech, Harvard and UC Berkeley. He has published more than 130 scientific journal articles, including influential papers on neural coding, object recognition, feed-forward vs. feedback processes, and attention. His latest research, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), explores brain-inspired AI models, including systems based on the influential Global Workspace theory of consciousness.
