Shara Bailey

Biological Anthropologist

Shara Bailey is an associate professor in the Center for the Study of Human Origins, in the Department of Anthropology at New York University. Bailey’s research focuses on answering questions about human evolution from a dental perspective. She has extensively researched Neanderthals and modern human origins but her research extends back to early Homo, Australopithecus, as well as enigmatic hominins like Homo floresiensis (a.k.a. ‘the hobbit’) and the recently discovered Homo naledi. Her books include a co-edited volume (with Jean-Jacques Hublin) on Dental Perspectives on Human Evolution with Springer Press and The Evolution of the Human Dentition with Cambridge University Press.
