Stephen Ross

Addiction Psychiatrist

Dr. Stephen Ross is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. Ross directs the NYU Addictive Disorders and Experimental Therapeutics Research Laboratory at Bellevue Hospital Center and is co-Director of the NYU Psychedelic Research Group. Dr. Ross researches the therapeutic application of psychedelic treatment models to treat psychiatric and addictive disorders. He is an expert in psycho-oncology and is studying novel pharmacologic-psychosocial approaches to treating psychological and existential distress associated with advanced or terminal cancer. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the NYU Psilocybin Cancer Project, PI of a controlled trial administering psilocybin to religious professionals, co-PI of a controlled trial assessing psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy in patients with alcoholism, site PI of the Usona-sponsored phase II multi-center randomized controlled trial of psilocybin treatment for Major Depressive Disorder, and co-investigator and study therapist of MAPS funded phase II/III trials of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD.
