William Clark

Mechanical Engineer
Dr. William “Buddy” Clark grew up on a farm in rural Virginia where he enjoyed building things and learning how machinery worked. He also developed a passion for baseball, getting a chance to play the sport with his four brothers until they all went off to college. He attended Virginia Tech, receiving BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and later joined the engineering faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, where he works today. He and his wife coached his two daughters and son throughout most of their softball and baseball years. His curiosity as an engineer and scientist pushed him to explore those sports by measuring many aspects of hitting and throwing. He eventually created a company, Diamond Kinetics, to commercialize some of the techniques that he used, and he now gets to combine his engineering curiosity with his love of baseball and softball on a regular basis.
