David Julius

David Julius, PhD, is professor and chair of the Department of Physiology at UC San Francisco and holds the Morris Herzstein Chair in Molecular Biology and Medicine. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Science and has won numerous honors and awards. Among those include the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the 2020 Kavli Prize in Neuroscience, and the 2019 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences. The major focus of his work has been to identify and understand molecular mechanisms involved in our senses of touch and pain.
