Eben Bayer

Environmental Entrepreneur, Inventor

Eben Bayer uses biology to solve important environmental challenges by growing safe and healthy new materials as well as envisioning creative ways to use natural technology at industrial scales and in consumer applications. He has shared his vision for a future powered by biology around the world, including presentations at TED Global, PopTech, and Davos. He is the CEO and Co-Founder of Ecovative Design, a leading biomaterials company growing high performance, premium, award-winning products that are safe, healthy, and certified sustainable. Bayer grew up working on his family’s Vermont farm and created the field of mushroom® materials by leveraging the bonding power of mycelium, “nature’s glue”. Using biology to upgrade existing products and processes, Ecovative has commercialized products into multiple industries including home compostable protective packaging; a formaldehyde-free core for engineered wood & insulation; and eco-friendly furniture; as well as GIY (grow-it-yourself) materials for innovators, students, and educators.
