Jay Van Bavel

Social Neuroscientist
Jay Van Bavel is an Associate Professor of Psychology & Neural Science at New York University. He conducts research on how group identities’ moral values and political beliefs shape the mind and brain. Van Bavel has received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award for distinguished contributions in social neuroscience from the Society for Social Neuroscience, the Young Scholars Award for outstanding achievements in social and personality psychology from the Foundation for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Award for Transformative Early Career Contributions from the Association for Psychological Science. He has published over sixty papers in top academic journals written about his research in the The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Scientific American. He has appeared on Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman and NBC News. Van Bavel has been interviewed on WNYC, Bloomberg News, and NPR.  He has had his work profiled in international media and has been cited in the Supreme Court.
